Your Energy Is Your Most Precious Commodity: Spend It Like You Mean It

There’s something I always tell the women I work with: Your energy is your most precious commodity—do your inventory on where you're spending it.

Imagine your energy is currency. You wouldn’t throw your company’s or client's media budget around without a clear strategy and objectives... your energy is the same!
As working mothers, especially those navigating the return to work after maternity leave, we often fall into the trap of giving our energy away reactively—to problems that pop up, to guilt that creeps in, to expectations we didn’t agree to. And before we know it, our days are full, our minds are racing, and we’ve run dry… without having moved meaningfully toward anything that matters to us.
That’s where intention comes in.
Spend Your Energy Like a Strategist
Before I became a coach, I spent years in corporate environments where media budgets were managed with intense clarity. Every dollar had a job. We asked:
What’s the objective?
Where’s the audience?
What outcome do we want?
Imagine applying that same thinking to your energy. Ask yourself:
What truly matters to me right now—in work, in family, in myself?
Where am I investing energy that’s misaligned with those things?
Where am I underinvesting in myself, simply because I’ve forgotten I’m allowed to?
From Reaction to Purpose
This is the shift I help women make every day. When you get clear on what matters, you stop reacting to everything that doesn’t. You create purpose in chaos. You start making energy decisions that are aligned with who you are now, not who you used to be—or who others expect you to be. It becomes easier to say no to that which no longr serves you. Because when your energy is spent with intention, it becomes momentum. And momentum leads to meaning.
So if you're a working mother who feels stretched thin, take a breath. Take stock. Do your energy inventory.
You deserve to feel clear, calm, and in control again.
